A SMALL SELECTION OF RIVERS AND LAKES THAT YOU CAN FISH.
The upper river Severn
The river meanders through some of the most stunning scenery in Wales. The river is a rain feed free stone river
with a mix of runs, long riffles, glides and pools. The wading on the upper Severn is some of the easiest you will come across
(very nice if you're a novice fly fisher ). The river levels are usually good as the river is controlled by Lyn Clewedog
in the summer months and also the river drops quickly after rain brings the river up. There are some superb fly hatches throughout
the year, notably Grannom/sedges, Black Gnat, stone/needle fly and various upwinged insects, with dry fly fishing well into
the winter months, weather and river levels permitting.
You can fly fish for trout, grayling, the odd salmon and
coarse fish.
There are also many smaller tributaries to fish such as Afon Rhiw, Afon Mule, Afon Carno and Afon
Trannon. Afon Clywedog

Upper Wye
Set
in wonderfully remote and rugged scenery, the top of the Wye system offers some of the most inspiring fishing available. Located in the heart of Wales, this part of the river flows mostly over gravel and bed rock, which, along with sparsely
distributed trees, make it an ideal place to head for if you are looking for easy access. In addition, the beats often remain
fishable when high water is affecting the rest of the Wye system, rising and falling quickly and remaining clear in all but
the worst conditions. The river holds trout and grayling, the river can be very clear and demands cunning fishing.

Lower End Of The Upper Wye
The
Wye around Builth Wells is where the upper Wye starts to become a large river, with three main tributaries coming into
the river above Builth Wells. The river has a large stone/rocky bottom with some slab rock, care is needed when wading. The
river consists of long riffles, rapids, glides and deep pools. You can fish for salmon, trout, grayling, pike, chub and
a variety of other coarse fish. In mid May you can also see some visitors to the Wye system when shad and sea lampreys
come into the river to spawn.

Afon Elan
This
river is one of the main tributaries of the upper Wye, running from the Elan Valley Reservoirs and joining the Wye 1.5 miles
south of Rhayader. The Elan has a large stone bouldery bottom and can be quite entertaining. Also a lot of the river
is tree lined so there is plenty of insect life. The Elan provides excellent opportunities to fish when the Wye is in flood,
as it is regulated by the Elan Valley Dams. The Elan Reservoirs also offer fantastic brown trout fishing and breathtaking
views. I can also offer fishing on the Elan on a very private beat, which has very little fishing pressure.

River Irfon
The
Irfon is a major upper Wye tributary. The Irfon starts on the slopes of Bryn Garw, flowing in a southerly direction towards
Llawrtyd Wells, though the secluded valleys of a national nature reserve, before turning east through Llangammarch Wells to
join the main river at Builth Wells. Thr Irfon holds good numbers of trout and grayling. The Irfon is a prodominantly
fast flowing bedrock dominated river, interspersed with gravel runs and deep pools.

River Ithon
The
Ithon's source is close to the Severn catchment, and drains from the western areas of Radnorshire, before meandering
in a southerly direction to join the main river just below Newbridge On Wye. Following mainly through silurian shales,
it is often the culprit when the Wye turns a greeny grey colour following heavy rainfall. You can fish for brown trout,
grayling, chub and dace. I also have access to some lovely private beats on the Ithon.

Elan Valley Lakes Llyn Clewedog
Llyn Bugeilyn
Those that read the angling press will have seen features on trout fishing on
wild upland lakes, tucked away in the rugged geology of the more remote areas of the UK. This is just such a stillwater, sitting
in moorland at about 1,700 feet above sea level. Its 45 acres offer truly wild fishing for the unique black finned trout of
Bugeilyn, which average around half a pound. Daily catches of twenty of these extremely hard fighting wild brownies are not
uncommon.
Please be aware that although there is a track down to the lake, this has deteriorated in the past couple
of years and is now accessible only with a 4x4. Anglers without 4x4 vehicles will need to park up by the road and walk the
2.2 miles down to the lake.

Custom Tied Flies
If you have a particular fly in mind, or an old favourite pattern you can no longer get
hold of, if you can describe the pattern to me I can re-create it for you, the fly tied to your personel specification.
If you think you have a fly pattern that might work better, with a little of this , or
a little of that in the pattern, no problem, it could possibly give you that edge, the only person using that given fly pattern,
let your imagination run wild !!!
If you would like a selection of flies as a present for someone, or a range to get you
started out fly fishing, I will supply you with a presentation set, in a quality fly box ( engraved if you wish).
I can also supply a set of framed flies, you say which flies you would like and
